District III Events

On warm nights during the summer, members of the Ravenna Thunderbirds and surrounding RC clubs gather to fill the skies above Jetway Airport in Ravenna, Ohio with flying led lights. Pilots embellish their aircraft with strips of LED lights which are powered by the same LIPO battery that powers the rest of the aircraft. Once it gets dark, the visual effect of lights floating around the sky is pretty cool. The Thunderbirds have been holding these events for several years now and its popularity is beginning to grow among area RC pilots. Keep an eye on their website    www.ravennathunderbirds.com  for specific dates and any changes.  For the 2026 season the dates are as follows:   April 25, May 30, June 27, July 25, August 29, September 26, and October 31.   Open flying usually starts at 6:00 pm with night flying starting at dusk. Should you decide to give this a try, please feel free to come on out to Jetway Airport with your version of a night flyer and join the fun. The club also serves food and beverages for donation at these events.
